KATARZYNA HALL
Minister of National Education
of the Republic of Poland
Born in 1957 in Gdańsk. Graduated from the Gdańsk University, where she read mathematics. She took up her first job in August 1980 in the Complex of Sports Comprehensive Schools. In 1984 she commenced employment in the Institute of Mathematics of the Gdańsk University.
In 1989 she participated in establishment of non-public educational system in Gdańsk. She was one of the founders of the Gdańsk Educational Foundation (Gdańska Fundacja Oświatowa), which created and has been running the Gdańsk Autonomous Lyceum. In 1995 she established the Sopot Autonomous Primary School. In 1999-2001 she was a member of the Consultative Council for National Education’s Reform. Since 2003 she has been coordinating actions in the framework of the Foundation’s „Paderewski” educational programme, aimed at enabling young, talented people of Polish origin from the countries of former Soviet Union to come and study in Poland. In 2004-2005 she was coordinating the project “School open to the world”, the main purpose of which was to exchange experience with Ukrainian schools. Since February 2006 she has been deputy mayor of Gdańsk.
Married to Aleksander Hall, has three sons.
